Research
Researchers at the FDMCI conduct applied research based on real-world questions and problems. Their research generates knowledge, insights, products and services that contribute to the innovation of professional practice, the resolution of social issues and the renewal of education. Research is carried out in various research groups. The activities of the research units are linked to the Faculty’s programmes.
Centres of Expertise
In the Centres of Expertise, professors and lecturer-researchers from different faculty knowledge institutions work together with other knowledge institutions, companies and civil society organisations, the government and citizens. The FDMCI is affiliated to the Centre of Expertise for Creative Innovation and the Centre of Expertise Applied Artificial Intelligence.
Centre of Expertise for Creative Innovation
The Centre of Expertise for Creative Innovation initiates innovative collaborations between universities of applied sciences, companies and society. These collaborations are always based on urgent urban issues in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. They enable us to strengthen the interaction between education and applied research.
Centre of Expertise Applied Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science are penetrating into every aspect of society. Scientific developments in these fields are happening in rapid succession. The applications are also making their influence felt in every sector and profession – to a greater or lesser extent – for which AUAS prepares its students.
Knowledge Mile
The Knowledge Mile is a living lab and business investment zone in the heart of Amsterdam between Amstelplein and Mr. Visserplein. With a growing community of some 30,000 local residents, 60,000 students and more than 200 companies, we are working together to shape the city of tomorrow. The lab provides scope to innovate and experiment, develop and test and presents solutions to metropolitan challenges that cities are facing today. The central themes are health, the circular economy, digital connectivity, mobility, talent of the future and art & design. Head to www.knowledgemile.org for more information.
Makerslab
This open workshop is the perfect place to brainstorm and, most importantly of all, make things. The Makerslab in the Theo Thijssenhuis at AUAS consists of Maakplein (Creation Square), a workshop and an instruction space. Besides computer-controlled machines like a 3D printer and laser cutting machine, the Makerslab also has access to a wide range of standard machines and tools, e.g. for sawing, soldering, sanding, vacuum casting, drilling and cutting. For more information, send an email to makerslab@hva.nl. Please note! Only for AUAS students and employees.
FDMCI Centre for Applied Research research groups
Research groups contribute to education, applied and scientific research and professional practice. The FDMCI Centre for Applied Research consists of seven (permanent) research groups, two special research groups – Cyber Security and Quantum Computing – and the REsponsible AI associate research group.
