Niels Knuvers - Graduated in 2021 from the Aviation Management Honours Track

If this isn’t your first job since graduating: what were your other jobs and at which companies?

This is my first full-time job after graduation.

How did you end up at your current job?

After graduation I reached out to the Aviation Academy pointing out my interest within academia. This set the ball rolling and led to an interview and ultimately a position within the operations team.

What are your daily operations?

On an average day I teach various classes. Last year I have mainly been involved in the modelling and simulation, however I have also been involved in the block modules as well as the graduation specialization aviation logistics. All of these classes have to be prepared. I usually try to do this the day before at the latest, in between classes and meetings. During this time I also perform administrative work. Another exciting activity is performing research. Although this is not my main focus, it is very interesting to combine the two. My research interest lies within challenges in the field of air cargo logistics.

What do you like most at your job?

It gives me a great feeling of satisfaction when I teach something to students and they are starting to understand why and how this information is relevant and useful. What I like most from last year is teaching modelling and simulation and guiding 4th year students in their scenario assignments. I really like having discussions with students and seeing how they look at current and future challenges within the aviation industry.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

At the moment, I am enrolled in two master programmes focusing on digital business and transport/supply chain management. My goal is to finish these two within a maximum of two years, after which I wish to continue developing myself in academia by performing research in a PhD programme. In the upcoming 5 years I see myself working hard towards this goal.

What do you like most from your education that helps you out currently in your work?

Looking back, I really value the knowledge and experience gained during group projects, especially when organizing the 16th Aviation Management Conference. Working together intensely towards a common goal comes with great challenges that I have been able to practice with and reflect upon. This experience certainly helped me develop myself in terms of setting up projects, but also on how to work together effectively with a large group (and much more). Nowadays this helps me when bringing across information to students. Every student has a different approach to learning and as a lecturer I want to make sure that every student understands the material being taught. This requires collaboration between me and the student(s) to find the approach that works best for them.

Are you still connected to the Aviation Academy?

Yes ;)

Have you been a member of the SVAAA?

Yes, especially during the first two years of the study, I do not think I missed many of the social gatherings ;).
