If this isn’t the first thing you did after graduation, what else did you do?

This is my first job since graduation. I have achieved a master’s degree in Public Administration (safety & security track) (in Dutch: Bestuurskunde (Besturen van Veiligheid)) between 2020 and 2022. After graduation I found this job.

How did you end up in your current job?

After six years of studying I decided to end my study life and find a job. I have a very broad background in study interests, but aviation (specifically operational aspects) attracts me more. I came across this vacancy on LinkedIn and decided to apply for the job.
One of the reasons for that is the very positive societal position the company has in the society due to the facilitating role in the medical sector for care taking organizations/hospitals. Another reason is the fact that I have similar internship experiences at TUIfly The Netherlands. So, I could apply that in the job at ANWB MAA.

What are your daily operations?

Compliance monitoring is a very broad part of my job. It goes from monitoring/auditing the organizational compliancy with the applicable (national and international) regulations (e.g. EC IR and EASA AMC & GM) towards conducting manual revisions and from reviewing procedures towards implementing new regulations (e.g. Information Security regulations).
Safety is also very broad defined. It goes from occurrence reporting towards developing dashboards with safety data and from attending (internal and external) safety meetings towards providing initial and recurrent training.
The overall main aim and added value of my daily tasks is to contribute to further develop the management system of the ANWB MAA.
Besides that, I also contribute to the drone operation of ANWB MAA from the compliance and safety perspective.

What do you like most at your job?

What I like the most is the variety of tasks my job contains. Safety is very compliance driven and compliance can be achieved by applying safety principles. These two aspects are inextricably connected with many separate tasks as a result.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

My goal for the long-term is to master the work field of compliance and safety by improving myself day by day with personal challenges, so honestly in five years I think I will stay where I am currently.

What did you like most in your education that helps you out nowadays in your work?

I liked the meaning of the overall theoretical concepts very much (e.g. management system, safety policy, compliance statement, Just Culture, risk management, etc.) So, theoretical safety and compliance principles that will be applied and helps me out in my daily work.
Education subjects with regard to this are ‘aviation rules and regulations’ (year 1) and the safety parts of the general lecture blocks (year 2).

Are you still connected to the Aviation Academy?

Yes. I receive alumni mail updates and attend alumni activities when the opportunities for that arise.
