Gerben ter Riet is a clinical epidemiologist specialising in the relationship between research integrity and methodology. Gerben is a principal investigator at the AUMC, location AMC. In 2015 he co-wrote the ZonMw research programme for promoting responsible research practices.
Between 2007 and 2012 Gerben worked as head of the Research Section of the Department of Family Medicine at AMC-UvA. Between 2013 and 2018 he was a methodologist in the Medical Ethics Committee of the AMC. Furthermore, as an associate professor, Gerben supervises undergraduate and graduate students in scientific electives.
Currently Gerben also works for the AUAS in the research of the faculty of Health and the faculty of Sports and Nutrition. He is responsible for bringing and keeping scientific integrity in order. Gerben wants to create a structure that makes optimal and transparent scientific work at the AUAS very common. In addition, Gerben is working on the SIA-SPRONG project Mensen in Beweging (People on the Move). In this project, researchers are looking at healthy nutrition and exercise for vulnerable groups in combination with sustainable behavioural influencing using creative technology.
Gerben studied Medicine at the University of Maastricht. He obtained his PhD in 1994 on the effects of ultrasound and high doses of vitamin C on the wound healing process of bedsores.
