Centre for Applied Research in Education
M.T. van Wees (Mark)
Mark works as a project manager and coordinator of European cooperation at the Centre of Expertise City Net Zero. He leads the European H2020 research and innovation project ATELIER, with the goal of creating energy-positive neighborhoods in Amsterdam and Bilbao. In this project - in which various research programmes of the AUAS work together - Mark is responsible for international cooperation. In addition, he supports the het Centre of Expertise City Net Zero researchers in the acquisition of European research funds from his role as quartermaster of European cooperation.
Energy-positive neighbourhoods
The ATELIER project contributes to Horizon Europe's new research and innovation mission 'Climate neutral and Smart Cities'. The societal research questions are: How can energy-positive neighbourhoods be developed throughout the city? Which techniques can be applied? What is the role of the municipality and the private sector and how can civic participation ensure social acceptance?
Energy and climate policy
Mark worked for the Institute for Environmental Studies and energy research centre ECN, among others, before becoming active as an independent energy and climate consultant. In this role he supports foreign governments, from Germany to Serbia and Armenia. He mainly focuses on energy and climate policy and underlying research, acquisition and project management. He is also an associate of SQ Consult, an international network of energy and climate experts.
