About Lea den Broeder
Lea den Broeder is a professor of Health Contexts at the AUAS and a senior researcher at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). For more than 10 years, she has focused on integrated health policy, with a focus on the interaction between people and their living environment, first at the Netherlands School of Public Health and later at the RIVM. From 2021 to 2024, she led the Public Health Outlook (VTV-2024) of the RIVM.
Resident participation and Citizen Science are important elements in her research. She collaborates with residents, neighborhood professionals, the GGD, municipalities and researchers from other institutes. In recent years, she has conducted research into the experience of residents in their neighborhood, nudging to stimulate exercise, and the impact of activity trackers on the health awareness of young people and low-skilled workers. She also investigated the resilience of residents during the corona period.
Lea studied Educational Sciences at the University of Amsterdam and later obtained a Master of Public Health at the Netherlands School of Public Health. In 2017, she obtained her PhD from the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam with her dissertation Citizen Science in Public Health, Engaging Communities in Knowledge Development.
