The main goal of this project is to conduct exploratory research on appeals against a decision made to environmental permits in construction. These appeals cases are evaluated by a team of lawyers advising the gemeente to grant or reject the claim. Due to the complex nature of cases, there is an interest in investigating objection grounds and identifying similar cases to increase transparency and common ground in decision-making. The initial dataset includes environmental law case files from 2020 to 2023 containing around 1,500 cases.
This project is a partnership between the Juridisch Bureau (JB), the Responsible AI and the Legal Management & Technology labs of HvA.
