Gerard is a member of the management team of the bachelor's programme in Sports Science with the portfolios student admission, study efficiency and logistics. He was part of the development team of the programme and has been working in various roles, such as lecturer (Technical Sports, Endurance Sports and Training), internship supervisor and coach.

Gerard graduated from the Academy for Physical Education (AUAS) in 1984. After his graduation he subsequently worked as a lecturer in athletics, internship supervisor and timetable coordinator. Parallel to this, Gerard has a long career as a top sports trainer and coach in athletics and triathlon.
