Admission requirements

The admission requirements for AMFI's Bachelor’s degree programme Fashion & Textile Technologies differ for Dutch and international students. Read on to see what applies to you.

To be admitted to AMFI - Amsterdam Fashion Institute you need to have completed secondary education equivalent to the Dutch HAVO, VWO or MBO 4. Additional requirements apply to the HAVO Culture and Society profile. Strong written and verbal English communications skills are also required.

Dutch students

You are admissible with any HAVO or VWO profile, with the exception of the HAVO Culture and Society profile, for which the admission requirement for mathematics A or B applies. This programme is taught entirely in English. Therefore, students are expected to have good written and verbal skills in English.

21+ admission test

If you do not satisfy any of the above admission requirements but are aged 21 or over, you may apply to take the 21+ admission test. This test looks at whether your knowledge and skills are sufficient to complete a higher professional education degree programme.

International students

We require evidence that you have passed the standardised examinations for university entrance of your nation of origin. These include but are not limited to:

General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE)(opens in new window) in 4 subjects (with grade A* to C or 9 to 4) + General Certificate of Education (GCE)(opens in new window) with 2 relevant subjects(opens in new window) at A level (with grade D/E, including Mathematics). A total of 6 different subjects, preferably including English.

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma. To enroll for the AMFI programme Fashion & Textile Technolgies you will need a secondary school diploma comparable to a Dutch HAVO, VWO or MBO (level 4) diploma. When your diploma is equivalent to the Dutch HAVO level you need to have taken your exam in mathematics. Before we can decide on your eligibility, we will assess your secondary school certificate and transcript. Additional requirements may be applicable. We expect proficiency of spoken and written English. Non-native English speakers are required to sit an IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge test. IELTS (6.0 subscores not lower than 5.5); TOEFL (iBT 80 subscores not lower than 20, of paper-based 550), TOEIC (LR670+SW290) of Cambridge (First (FCE) Grade B (173-175) /First (FCE) Grade C (169-172)). Please note: the IELTS and TOEFL certificates are valid for 2 years, the Cambridge certificates are valid indefinitely.
