OT-Euromaster Hosts AI Workshop for students and staff

AI in Academia

A Coruna, Spain – In a step towards integrating technology like AI in academic studies, the European Master of Science in Occupational Therapy team organized a workshop titled “AI Supported Literature Search” this June.

The workshop aimed to introduce participants into the use of AI-supported tools for literature search, emphasizing both the do's and don'ts. With AI becoming increasingly prevalent in academic environments, the session provided guidance on how to use it to your advantage while avoiding common pitfalls. Several helpful tools were introduced while raising awareness of their background.

Highlights of the workshop included practical exercises of AI-supported literature search tools and discussions on their usability in mixed groups of staff and students. They were all encouraged to engage in dialogue, share their expectations, and discuss their experiences with AI in their studies. This collaborative approach ensured that everyone left with a clear understanding that when incorporating AI into a research project, the researcher always has to remain the “master” of the process and use the tool as an assistant.

One key takeaway from the workshop was the emphasis on the critical evaluation of AI-generated results. The staff underscored the importance of verifying the accuracy and relevance of information retrieved by AI tools, cautioning against over-reliance on technology without human oversight.
