Why choose ESP?

An important aspect of our philosophy is the personal attention we give to our students. As an ESP student, you will have a personal study advisor supervising your academic work and personal development throughout your study period.

The ESP’s instruction method is based on – and inspired by – the Confluent Learning Philosophy. This means that:

  • Students work together in an open and caring atmosphere;
  • Teachers act as lecturers, coaches, clinical supervisors and professional guides;
  • There is little distance between teaching staff and students: ESP as an extended family for the student;
  • We offer a wide range of teaching methods: lectures, practical classes, self-directed study, project work, special projects, e-learning, laboratory work, clinical sessions, discussion groups and internships;
  • Students will meet patients from the start until the end of the programme;
  • We guarantee a coherent, up to date and flexible curriculum.

Mentor

As soon as you start your studies in Amsterdam, you will be assigned a mentor from the school. The mentor helps students with their student career planning, discusses personal issues, challenges, helps them to set goals and informs them about their results. He or she is the communicator between the individual student and the school and represents them in school meetings where their results and grades are discussed.

Teaching staff

The ESP programme draws on the wide range of expertise in the European School of Physiotherapy. The staff involved in the programme cover every field in the profession. You will be taught by medical specialists, psychologists, human movement scientists, exercise physiologists and physiotherapists. Besides being lecturers, they are also practitioners who have a wealth of experience and insight to share with you.

Our school has a longstanding tradition of contributing to international projects. Consequently, our lecturers have extensive experience gained from working in many parts of the world and they know what the practice of physiotherapy is about. They are familiar with the cultures of many countries: from Africa to Asia and from Europe to the Americas.

Special projects

Besides many social events and projects such as common snow week, introduction week, meet and greets, guest lectures, we also follow the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences’ ambition in the concept of “Urban Vitality”. In certain weeks, especially planned for this purpose, ESP students of all generations do community work in the city of Amsterdam, with either elderly people or other people in need of help. Also, voluntary work in developing countries or assisting a local sports club is part of special projects that ESP students are part of, alongside their intense set of courses they follow at ESP.

Programme of excellence

The Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences recognises the European School of Physiotherapy as an official honours programme. This special status represents the high quality of the programme, faculty, staff and, most importantly, students.
