Admission requirements

The Applied Quantum Technology master's degree is a programme for ambitious students with diverse technical backgrounds. You are eligible if you have completed (at least) a bachelor's degree.

You can expect a study load of at least 40 hours per week. In order to be successful in this master's degree, it is essential that you keep up with the high pace of the programme. You will work in learning teams with a lot of interaction with the other master's students and the lecturers. 

The programme is a joint degree of 4 Universities of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, Saxion (Enschede), Fontys UAS (Eindhoven), THUAS (The Hague) and AUAS (Amsterdam). The programme is delivered at all four locations, so travelling to the different locations will be necessary to participate in the programme.  

For the Master Applied Quantum Technology we seek ambitious students with resilience and innovative thinking. We therefore not only work with a set of minimum educational requirements, but also select students based on their motivation, ability to collaborate across disciplines, and self-regulation skills. All students have to go through the selection procedure where they can be admitted or rejected. 

Application deadlines

Deadline for application of non-EU/EEA students is 1 April.  
​​​​​​Deadline for application of all other students is 15 Augustus. 

Admission procedure 

A request for registration is made via Studielink. There are no costs involved in the admission procedure, except for the costs for a TOEFL or IELTS test if necessary. 

Selection criteria 

The selection procedure is based on the following criteria: 

  1. Proof of sufficient knowledge of fundamentals of mathematics, physics and/or programming (for example a degree in a suitable bachelor programme in a technical domain, e.g. Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, HBO-ICT or Electrical Engineering). 
  2. As English is the language of communication in the Master Applied Quantum Technology, all students must have a good level of proficiency in English (e.g. equivalent to TOEFL 550, IELTS 6 or Cambridge B2 (similar to English havo final exam level). 
  3. A written motivation in which you demonstrate:  
    1. that you are keen to deepen your knowledge and skills in the fundamentals of mathematics, physics and programming.; 
    2. your self-regulating abilities based on recent experience in time management, stress management and flexibility during your study or work. Reflect critically on your achievements so far during your bachelor’s degree and indicate where you would put your focus during the master ‘s in order to achieve your personal development goals. 
    3. your ability to be a team player in a multidisciplinary setting. You may use previously implemented projects/research to demonstrate this.  

Admission interview 

For all students an (online) admission interview will be arranged to determine if the Applied Quantum Technology master programme is suitable for you. This interview is conducted on behalf of the admissions committee. 

During this interview we will discuss your motivation and examine the information you have provided to us. We will also discuss whether this master's program suits you and we will advise you on the elective modules to choose. Of course, you will have the opportunity to ask questions. 

Based on the selection criteria and the interview the admission committee will decide whether you are admissible or not. 

When admissible, you will only be registered as a student if you meet all other registration requirements before the 1st of September. You are registered as a student if you receive proof of registration from the Central Student Administration of AUAS. The AUAS Studentcharter applies to registration. The Studentcharter is published on the website of AUAS. 

Appeal

When a student is not satisfied with the outcome of the admission interview results, the student may lodge an appeal against the decision with the AUAS Examination Appeals Board within six weeks of the date on which it was issued. Appeals should be submitted using the online form provided by the Objections, Appeals and Complaints Office, which can be found on legal affairs.
