Selection procedure

The Interaction Design track of the Master’s programme in Digital Design welcomes 48 (international) students each year. Candidates must demonstrate relevant experience through an annotated portfolio and curriculum vitae.

Enrolment and study check

For the 2025-2026 academic year make sure to enrol by 1 May 2025 at the latest. To do so, follow the step-by-step plan. The study check is a mandatory part of the enrolment procedure if you are living in the Netherlands. Visit the study check page for information on the various regulations and exceptions.

Please note: for students requiring a visa and/or residence permit for study purposes the application deadline is 1st of March 2025.  The admission process begins by submitting your application on Studielink.nl. The immigration process starts after you've met the entrance requirements. To make sure you have a chance to be admitted to the programme, we advise you to apply earlier than the application deadline and to upload your documents on time.  

Admission process

The process begins by submitting your application on Studielink.nl. Based on your undergraduate degree, English proficiency and visa status, the timelines of the admission process can differ. We advise you to apply earlier than the application deadline and to upload your documents on time. The application deadline for non-EU students is March 1st and the deadline for EU students is May 1st.

The Interaction Design track of the Master Digital Design programme has a limit of 48 students and employs a selection procedure. Admissions will follow a two-phase process, with an initial screening of the candidates’ motivation, CV, and required documents, followed by interviews (via teleconferencing) of successful applicants.

The application process is as follows:

  • Please check the Admission requirements.
  • Register your application through Studielink (opens in new window); within 48 hours you will receive an email confirmation.
  • In your confirmation email, you will be asked to submit your application, which includes the following:
    1. Completion of a form where you provide, among other information: your experience; motivation; up to 3 examples of portfolio; analysis of your work; analysis of design theories. A link to the form will be provided to you upon registration.
    2. Sending of required documentation, including diplomas and English language certificates.
  • Based on the above, a small number of applicants will be invited for an interview, which will determine whether the admission committee will offer you one of the 48 places at the programme.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

    • Familiarity with current and upcoming trends in digital technology and design, as well as their socio-economic and cultural effects;
    • Ability to explain their design process, guiding the interviewer step by step through the various iterations up to a final product;
    • Evidence of design and creative skills, as well as the ability of framing a design problem.
    • Familiarity with the current theories, literature and debates on digital design practice and research.
    • Evidence of teamwork skills in a design setting.
