'My Master's degree has directly led to experiences in major sports events all around the world'

'My Master's degree allowed me to develop specialised knowledge in the field of sport business. The modules were delivered by experts in sport with impressive individual backgrounds. The modules around sustainability and sustainable leadership were specifically relevant to me. I collaborated with the International University Sport Federation (FISU) on my Master's thesis. This led to many different roles at international sport organisations and experience at multiple major international sporting events. Such as ATP and WTA Tennis Events, National Championships, World Cups, the Commonwealth Games, World University Games and Championships. I now work as manager of Delegation Services for the FISU World University Games.

Completing my Master's degree also allowed for career advancement within specific areas. During my studies, I undertook a collaborative project with West Ham United Foundation in which I acted as a consultant aiming to solve an organisational issue. This project experience has allowed me to have evidence-based skills that I can demonstrate when applying for roles. The Master's programme created many networking opportunities due to being within an international cohort. I have a network that now includes not only professionals in the field of sport, but also other students who have gone on to create their own career and share their knowledge and opportunities they may have.

Furthermore, the Master's programme benefitted my research and analytical skills that have been needed in my roles and have allowed me to be successful in applications to coordinator or officer-based roles. I engaged in research, critical analysis, and problem-solving throughout the modules I undertook, and these have been major components of my 2 previous roles.  It has enhanced my professional credibility, as someone who now interviews many individuals in my role as a workforce coordinator having a Master’s degree is seen as a signal of commitment and expertise that would not be the case with a bachelor’s alone.

Overall, my career has benefitted from completing a Master’s degree, after completing a Bachelor's degree my knowledge was broad, and my Master's has allowed me to specialise in Sport Business and Leadership elements and demonstrate my commitment to learn and self-starting attitude.'
