European professionals of tomorrow
Beyond our focus on Amsterdam, AUAS increasingly collaborates internationally. It is crucial to build strong networks with peer institutions to safeguard the quality of education and applied research in an international context. The Urban Research and Education Knowledge Alliance (U!REKA) is one of our flagship examples.
U!REKA now unites 6 European higher education institutions (full partners) and 26 associate partners including universities, cities and regional councils. The network became an official Erasmus+ European University Alliance in 2023. By working together across borders and building on each other’s expertise and strengths, U!REKA and the AUAS educate the European professionals of tomorrow: inclusive, intercultural, open-minded global citizens who accelerate Europe's shift towards climate neutrality.
The 6 full partners are:
- Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences
- Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences
- HOGENT University of Applied Sciences and Arts
- Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki
- Politécnico de Lisboa
- VSB – Technical University of Ostrava
The AUAS is a founding partner of this strategic alliance, which launched in Amsterdam in 2016. Through this collaboration, we are working to take the quality of our educational and research activities to a new level internationally, which will consequently better prepare our students for a changing labour market.
The 26 associate partners include:
- 5 universities: Edinburgh Napier University, University of Bari, Odessa National Economic University, New Bulgarian University, and University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna
- 10 cities: Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Amsterdam, Ostrava, Frankfurt, Ghent, Lisboa, Cascais, Oeiras
- 5 regional/ district councils (e.g. Frankfurt Rhein-Main Metropolitan Region, Helsinki-UusimaaRegional Council)
- Some European Networks (EURASHE, ERRIN)
