Child and Youth Social Care
About the research group
The research group Child and Youth Social Care helps youth professionals and their organizations to provide effective support and care to children, young people and their parents or guardians. We do this by working closely together to carry out projects that emerge from themes in practice. We conduct research, develop tools and help to deploy them effectively.
Three themes
Our expertise lies in three research themes:
1. Working effectively in youth care
2. Supporting youth in the city
3. Forensic youth care
1. Working effectively in youth care
Working effectively in youth care requires continuous learning about methods and interventions in order to use them to improve daily practices. The research line 'Working effectively in youth care' of the Research Group Child and Youth Social Care is about improving quality while learning.
2. Supporting youth in the city
Although many youth in the Netherlands are doing well, there is a growing group of young people who need support in their development. The question is how, in a complex social environment, we can support youth and their families in the best possible way.
3. Forensic Youth Care
Forensic youth care focuses on two groups of young people aged 0 to 25 years who grow up in vulnerable circumstances and show serious problem behavior partly as a result. The first group consists of young people who have experienced mistreatment, neglect, (sexual) abuse or domestic violence. They grew up in a very unsafe (home) situation and experience the consequences of this. The second group consists of young people who have been involved in rule-breaking, antisocial or delinquent behavior. Both groups need help to rejoin society. But how to help them in the best possible way?
