Entrepreneurship
About the research group
The research group entrepreneurship is one of the three college-wide research groups of Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Administratively housed at the Faculty of Business and Economics, but intertwined with all seven faculties of the college, all of which are equally important to the research group's mission. The research group is responsible for the entrepreneurship research program and the student entrepreneurship support program: both programs are closely linked and therefore reinforce each other.
The program seeks to convey a realistic and nuanced picture of entrepreneurship by highlighting both the positive and negative aspects of entrepreneurship at micro, meso and macro levels. It also strives to conduct practice-oriented research relevant to both the field and education.
Our connection to education
1. We develop activities and programs that can be connected to existing curricula or serve as extracurricular activities where students and staff from different faculties and disciplines can meet, communicate and collaborate.
2. The results of our (applied) research activities are fed back into all supporting activities and programs to ensure that they are fact-based or at least scientifically based.
3. We want to involve students in the implementation of our research projects and inform teachers about the latest (applied) scientific insights in the field of entrepreneurship education.
6 themes
As a knowledge partner within AUAS and for organizations and entrepreneurs, the program focuses on 6 themes:
1. Entrepreneurship education and competence development
In the entrepreneurship education research line, we study educational approaches from primary to higher education, look at educational methods that lead to entrepreneurial capabilities and mindset, and the impact of these educational innovations.
2. Entrepreneurial failure and recovery
In the research line on entrepreneurial failure and recovery, we look at the context and decisions made before failure. We also examine how entrepreneurs learn from that period and what they do to overcome setbacks.
3. Social and sustainable entrepreneurship
With this line of research we want to contribute to the development of social entrepreneurship in the Netherlands, as we see it as an important step towards a sustainable and fair economy. Social entrepreneurs are pioneers on the road to this new economy.
4. (Collaborative) Business models
DoE It Together provides insight into stakeholder configurations and stimulates research and development. At the same time, it explores how entrepreneurship can be accessible to different backgrounds, with the goal of strengthening an inclusive economy.
5. Female Entrepreneurship
The RISE and WeRIn initiatives provide a strong support structure for women entrepreneurs, bringing together research and practical initiatives to promote an inclusive and encouraging entrepreneurial environment.
6. Digital Entrepreneurship
Technological advances are changing how entrepreneurs operate. We explore these challenges to encourage growth and innovation in entrepreneurship.
