Nutrition and Exercise

About the research group

Healthy nutrition and sufficient physical activity play a crucial role in preventing chronic diseases and supporting recovery from illness. The Nutrition and Exercise research group focuses on optimising and maintaining a healthy lifestyle for various vulnerable groups, such as children and older adults. Researchers develop and evaluate nutrition and exercise interventions to promote health and preserve or restore daily functioning.

Objectives

  • Developing and testing healthy nutrition and exercise plans:
We focus on sustainable nutrition (such as increasing plant-based protein intake), digitalisation (People in Motion), and engaging diverse target groups.

  • Improving professional practice:
In collaboration with dietitians and physiotherapists, we conduct research and ensure the findings are integrated into both education and practice.

  • Creating new knowledge:
We study ways to preserve muscle mass and explore the role of protein in nutrition, working alongside and for the benefit of education and practice.

  • Testing measurement tools in our Nutrition Lab:
At the Amsterdam Nutritional Assessment Center (ANAC), we evaluate the reliability of measurement tools used in professional settings.
