Team professionalisation in dynamic organisations
About the research group
In a rapidly changing work environment, it is essential for professionals to collaborate effectively and have influence over their work. The Team Professionalisation in Dynamic Organisations research group investigates how professionals can collaboratively solve complex problems within their organisations. With changes such as digitalisation and the growing need for sustainability, it is increasingly important for teams to effectively apply their skills. The research group explores ways to enhance this and supports teams in various sectors, such as education and energy, to strengthen their roles and prepare for the future.
Accelerated Economic Transformation
The pace and impact of economic transformation are expected to increase further in the coming decades. This shift is driven by digitalisation and automation, as well as the need to structure our economy in a more sustainable, adaptable, and socially just manner. The current situation many professionals find themselves in due to the Covid-19 crisis has intensified and accelerated these changes.
Collaboration in a Changing Economy
The expertise and roles of professionals come together in teams, where collaboration enables the delivery of high-quality work. Both the demands placed on professionals and the challenges they face are evolving due to economic transformation, requiring increased collaboration among professionals. However, in many areas, the space and conditions for professional collaboration are under pressure due to a desire and perceived need for control and efficiency.
Competencies and Organisational Guidance
This raises the question of what competencies (teams of) professionals need, in the context of a transforming economy, to utilise professional space and act effectively within the context in which they operate. It also leads to the question of how an organisation consciously or unconsciously influences and guides the actions of professionals, and what choices can be made within an organisation to enable professionals to leverage their agency. These questions lie at the heart of the research conducted by the research group.
Partners
The research group conducts action research in and with teams across various sectors, such as education and the energy sector, and has strong ties with other universities and higher education institutions. It is part of The Work Lab and the Centre for Economic Transformation.
