Long stay housing
If you are planning on staying in Amsterdam for longer than one year, we strongly advise you to register as soon as possible on Dutch student housing websites.
Registration on certified waiting time-based platforms is an important backup measure if the AUAS is unable to provide you with a room and/or it will prepare you for finding housing after your first year.
These platforms are unfortunately not suitable for exchange students, due to the long waiting times.
Room.nl(opens in new window)
Average waiting time is 2 to 3 years. It is beneficial to apply as soon as you have received your student number. You can check www.room.nl/en/recently-rented(opens in new window) to find the registration times of students that were allocated a room through Room.nl.
Due to priority regulations for newly arriving international students, this waiting time can be shortened: you can find more information on their priority plan here(opens in new window). Please note that these priority rooms are different from the regular accommodations on Room.nl, so be sure to read the information on their page closely.
Studentenwoningweb(opens in new window)
Average waiting time is 2-3 years. A new website with a different name will be launched in May 2024. More information soon.
