Research skills in the learning objectives of higher professional education Curricula (RIE)

Strategic programme Research in Education

Project

How is research integrated in the curricula of higher professional education? This research provides insight into the research objectives described by study programmes in the documented curricula of all 70 of AUAS’ study programmes.

Due to the ever-changing society, it is of great importance that professionals are able to think and act innovatively in their future professions. In higher education, skills such as innovative skills, are often linked to research skills. Investigating the presence of research objectives in the curriculum provides an insight into the opportunities for students to develop research skills.

This study maps out the learning objectives regarding research skills of all 70 Bachelor programmes at the AUAS, as described in course catalogues and syllabuses. Ultimately, the project covers a time period of four years, starting with investigating the research objectives that are being adopted in curricula of higher professional education. After this, research objectives mentioned in the curricula of the 2015-2016 academic year, will be compared with the research objectives specified in the curricula of the 2017-2018 academic year.

The research questions for this project are:

  • Which research objectives are being adopted within the curricula of the Universities of Applied Sciences?
  • What are the differences between research objectives in the curricula of the 2015-2016 and the 2018-2019 academic year?
