Stephan Ramaekers (1958) is a physiotherapist and educationalist. He obtained his doctorate in 2011 from Utrecht University, where his thesis was titled On the development of clinical reasoning; can it be taught or can it only be learned? In 2016 he returned to the AUAS to become programme manager of the Physiotherapy BSc, which has a regular Dutch track and an intensive (three-year) international track.
In December 2018 he was appointed professor of Professional Reasoning and Shared Decision-making in Healthcare. The connecting thread in all his work as an innovator and researcher is the exploration of competence development in critical research inquiry and the corresponding curricular design and programmatic assessment. Stephan Ramaekers is also active in a variety of advisory and consultative bodies.
