Centre for Applied Research in Education
About us
The Centre for Applied Research on Education aims to be a socially relevant knowledge centre serving the Amsterdam metropolitan area. The research and education stemming from the Amsterdam University of Applied Science’s (AUAS) Faculty of Education contribute to social developments in the field of education and pedagogy.
Central mission
Conducting practice-based, high-quality research is the central mission of our centre for applied research. The objective of AUAS’s professional, applied research is to contribute to improvements and innovations in professional practice. Applied research generates knowledge and insights, which are translated into concrete solutions for pressing problems in Amsterdam.
This interaction between society, education and research sets applied research conducted at universities of applied sciences - such as AUAS - apart from their academic counterparts which focus primarily on theoretical research.
Centre of Expertise Urban Education
The Centre of Expertise (CoE) Urban Education at the AUAS conducts research into how children and young people living in the metropolis of Amsterdam learn and develop.
The CoE wants to contribute to increasing the equality of opportunities for children and young people by researching inclusive approaches to learning and development. By doing so, the CoE contributes to the optimal development of children and young people in Amsterdam, who feel at home and part of this city.
Please see the Urban Education site for more information (currently in Dutch).
