Publishing Lab

Digital publications are only becoming more prominent. With the advent of tablets and smartphones, such publications – think: ebooks, newpaper apps and digital magazines – have become an intrinsic part of the media landscape. Digitalisation has completely transformed the sector! The PublishingLab focuses on this intersection between publishing and digital technologies, in print and digital (hybrid publishing).

The whole publishing chain is being influenced. Technology is changing the creation, production, distribution, marketing and use of publications. The impact that this will have on the branch is the focus of PublishingLab.

The activities of the PublishingLab have three pillars:

  1. Makers (authors, designers);
  2. Intermediaries (publishers);
  3. Users (readers/students).

In addition, the lab builds on earlier research on digital publishing done in cooperation with the Institute for Network Culture. This two-year research project, involving four publishers and various developers and designers, undertook research on multichannel publishing – resulting in diverse tools and a publication.
