YubiKey
Some members of staff use systems that require a YubiKey to fit the door with an extra lock. You can also use the YubiKey if you do not have a smartphone or prefer not to use it for two-step verification. The YubiKey can be requested from your ICT contact. This necessarily involves certain costs.
The YubiKey is a USB flash drive that you insert into your computer. The button on the USB flash drive then generates a password that is automatically entered in the login screen. You will use the YubiKey when requested to do so by the system to which you wish to log in.
ACTIVATE YUBIKEY
You can only register the YubiKey and have it activated after you receive it. Please follow the steps below.
- Go to the SURFconext registration portal and select ‘Add Token’ > ‘YubiKey’.
- You will receive a confirmation email with a link at your AUAS email address.
- Keep the activation code safe and take it to a service desk to have your YubiKey activated.
Once you have your YubiKey and have received your activation code after registering on the SURFconext registration portal, go to a service point or service desk during office hours to activate your YubiKey. To active your YubiKey, you must bring the following documents:
- valid proof of identity (such as a passport, ID card or driving licence), so that the desk clerk can verify your identity
- your activation code
- your YubiKey
Please note: Without valid proof of identity, an activation code or YubiKey, the service desk clerk will not be able to activate the YubiKey for you.

LOST YOUR YUBIKEY?
If you have lost your YubiKey, simply request a new YubiKey and register it via the SURFconext registration portal. Before registering your new YubiKey in on the SURFconext registration portal, you must delete your old registered YubiKey. To delete your old YubiKey, click on ‘Overview of tokens’ on the registration portal and then click the ‘Delete’ button next to the YubiKey you lost.
