On 1 December 2018, Dr Hessel Nieuwelink was appointed tenure-track professor of Citizenship Education within the Urban Education priority area at the Faculty of Education.
His aim in this role is to provide greater insight into effective democratic citizenship education, the development of citizenship among children and young people over time and the possible contribution of education to the creation of equal opportunities.
